Boon Thau Loo is the RCA Professor at the Computer and Information Science department with a secondary appointment in Electrical and Systems Engineering. He leads the NetDB@Penn research group, and he is the director of the distributed systems lab. In addition Prof. Boon serves as the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs at Penn Engineering.As an entrepreneur, he has co-founded two technology companies that were acquired successfully. In 2015, he co-founded Termaxia, a software-defined storage startup based in Philadelphia, later acquired in 2020 by Frontiir, one of the largest Internet service providers in Southeast Asia. In 2014 Prof. Boon co-founded and led Gencore Systems (Netsil), a cloud performance analytics company that spun out of his research team at Penn. The company was acquired in 2018 by Nutanix Inc
